How to Clean Your Dog Run?

How to Clean Your Dog Run?

Oh boy, I hope you have already thought about this before you decide on your dog run– cleaning and sterilizing your dog’s living space is just as important as cleaning your own living space.

I like to use my favourite handy cleaner made with diluted bleach – this works great on almost everything (but not fabric), kill germs (like 99.9% efficient) and super low cost.

Step 1: Wear gloves

Well, sometimes I do ignore this step, simply just because work tend to be easier without gloves. But bleach is corrosive even in diluted state, it could make your skin itch and irritated and leaves strong smell no matter how many times you try to wash your hands.

Step 2: Apply cleaner on the run and mesh

You are able to use spray bottle or simply pour quarter of a cap full of bleach into 1 litre of clean water, and use a cloth or brush to clean. I personally prefer spray bottle as it is a permanent cleaner in the house and I could use the leftover amount somewhere else.

Step 3: Clean clean clean

Brush away fluffs and spider webs at the corners, wipe off dusts and crumbs. Clean to as details as you wish to but definitely be extra careful when you gets close to the ends of the mesh.

Step 4: Rinse off

You probably don’t want to risk on having your dog licking or picking up food after contacting with the run. So rinsing would be the most important step I would say. The more diluted cleaner, the less likely to have the risk, but nevertheless I would still recommend rinsing cleaned crate thoroughly.

Step 5: Sun dry

Best thing about it is that your run isn’t going anywhere really, but do remove all the covers to allow maximum exposure. Not only it is the most efficient way to dry your run, but also by drying your run crate in the sun could get the benefit of sterilization from the UV rays. Nature’s just wonderful!

On top of cleaning the crate, 9/10 times, I would also cleaning my dogs feeder bowls and beauty tools such as comb, brush and grooming tools.

However for small items, it would be much easier to clean with dishwashing liquid or the best result would be dishwasher if you have one. Just probably want to have a set of cleaning sponge and cleaning brush so it wouldn’t cross contaminating.

How to Save On Your Dog Registration Bill?

How to Save On Your Dog Registration Bill?

Time flies aye! It is the time of year again – Register your dog in New Zealand!

Yes, I have in fact received my dog rego information pack 2 weeks ago – thanks to Auckland Council for this important reminder.

Honestly, except from checking out the total amount due and due date stated in the letter, I have never really pay attention to any details. Last week, before making the payment, I thought it would be interesting to take a look of the details. And whoo I have realised there is interesting licence you could get – a Responsible Dog Owner Licence (RDOL).

To apply for it, you will have to answer the whole way through a quiz where you get asked on a lot of questions such as was there any complaint lodged under your dog’s registration within past 12 months’ time?  Do you register your dog on time on annual basis and so on.

It’s funny how you would only start to think about something so simple and straightforward now when it is considered to be common sense.

Being a good owner not just by following rules and pay your dog registration fees but to always thinks about others. At the same time, it has rewarding discounted dog registration fees (by Auckland Council):

Registration Class

Fees

Entire Dog (non-RDOL) $141
De-sexed dogs (non- RDOL) $101
Entire Dog (RDOL) $73
De-sexed dogs (RDOL) $63

My usual bill would be $101 and upon successful applications of RDOL, I would be only paying $63 each year!

I didn’t really get a better picture until I’ve gone through all the questions to realise how much and how little that I have done for my dog baby and how responsible I have been towards the whole society.

One thing I would probably be most aware of would be barking issues. My dog used to bark a lot, but back then my neighbor’s Chihuahuas (yes she has 3 Chihuahuas!) barks even more, oh so much more and duration takes much longer, you could always hear them barking anytime on my balcony. So while I was lucky and unlucky at the same time, my dog’s bark was never really noticed until I moved to a bigger place and got him a dog run.

Back then I didn’t realise the difference on how a dog run would have any association with his barking behavior until I begin to notice I was much loosen up nowadays when I arrive home late at night – because my dog would just be barking for 2 seconds and he would stop; or most of the time, he would start pacing around, but no barks.

Now I have learnt it was because of his amount of ‘self-exercising’ in the dog run – as 3m by 3m dog run is actually quite big for him when he is just a little fluffy 4kg dog. This daily exercise would greatly reduce the barking regularities and greatly reduce anxious behavior.

If you have enough space and barking dog, it would worth to try out a dog run.

Do I Choose Dog Run or Dog Playpen?

Do I Choose Dog Run or Dog Playpen?

On my last blog post I mentioned how I looked at a dog run being similar to a dog playpen? My little sister then asked an interesting question which I thought some of you might be interested to know how a dog run is similar but still different than a dog playpen.

Initially I got myself a set of Heavy Duty Dog Play Pen by BINGO (and this is how I first seen a dog run). The set of playpen was so great that I ended up getting a second set so that I could join them up to create a much bigger space for my dog.

So here it is, think about your purpose where mine was space! Bigger space!

My dog had months of time with no problem at all in the playpen until one day I found that when he was really excited, he could almost get over the fence.! Now that doesn’t happen to most of small dogs really, and I have only just caught it once, but once could be enough to trigger those bad imaginations whenever I had to leave him home for work.

There, I first got to take a good look at a dog run, I was going to make my way towards checkout but I wasn’t sure about the space I have.

I went home, and took some measurements and I was happy enough to find that I have enough space to get a 3m by 3m dog run instead. Got through the checkout successfully the next day and ta da, it was there at my door step right overnight after placing the order!

I am a totally happy dog mommy since then and I was pleased as I made a good choice. I still love the playpens I got and still use it as more of a portable option – brought my dog over to a friend’s lunch party on an open farm once and BINGO playpen was my best friend on the day.

To sum it up for you all on the question of: To choose a dog run or a dog playpen?

Think about the purpose – are you likely to move your dog’s living space? Is your dog active or more of a shy little one who usually lacks of sense of security? In these cases, get a heavy duty playpen!

Think about designated space you have – if you have enough space for at least 2.3m by 2.3m, get a dog run!

Is your dog a good high jumper like mine? Yes? Get a dog run!

Are you sick on locking up multiple latches or is currently using a padlock on your dog enclosure? Get a dog run!

If you are unsure about the space you will need and this space could vary from time to time, then get a dog playpen!

What is a Dog Run?

To be honest I have never heard about there is such thing called dog runs that exists until I found one on branded BINGO.

Generally I look at it as large size dog playpen but enclosed in a way that fence does without top and bottom part.

bingo_dog_kennel_2.3x2.3x1.22m_-_01.jpg (800×600)

A dog run is consists by multiple vertical support poles, connectors and metal mesh roll.  I only realised the gate needs to be assembled as well as the whole frame, but that was fine by me. At the end it is more of a surprise to know how it is much handier than smaller indoor dog cages, or a playpen, mostly because I was so happy with the auto locking gate.

bingo_dog_kennel_2.3x2.3x1.22m_-_03.jpg (800×600)

It works in a way just as the auto locking garden fence gates that you may have at home, you don’t need anything like a latch or padlock, simply close the gate behind you and you will start to love this design when you are running late for work or a date.

The best thing you will get immediately after assembling it is that you will find your dog would be so excited to have a little run inside. Especially if you have a small dog like I do – they just simply get more exercise spaces. I could conclude dog run would be a best solution for more active dogs, like mine would just sniff and pace around inside the enclosure, while he would normally choose to sleep through the day if he gets to be in a playpen.

So as much as a dog run, dog cage and dog playpen shares similarities, they are functionally different and before you decide on getting one yourself, the most basic thing to check on is of course your designated space. If you don’t even have a space for it, then surely you don’t need to struggle with the choices, the playpens might work for you too if you could make sure you still get to walk your dog anyway.

For those of you who do have spaces available for a dog run, then I would suggest to get a dog run over other choices no matter it is a cage or playpen. You want something that is big enough to place a kennel house inside, feeders and still have enough space for exercises. You want something that is handy enough to give you that worry free moments where you just have to remember to get the gate on your way out and your dog won’t be able to run away from there.

Now you are able to enjoy a nice Saturday lunch date with knowing your dog is safe and sound at home 🙂

Why do you need an outdoor dog kennel run?

Being a dog owner, every one of us understands the importance of dogs in our life. A dog is not a possession that is just fed and water every day. You should not adopt or buy a dog just because you think they are cute and fuzzy. They are part of our family and indeed a big responsibility and commitment.

Think about the importance of daily exercise

Once you have a dog, you will have to fit the animal into your life including your household. Dogs, by nature, are very active animals. Exercise helps deal with any sort of unwanted dog behavior. We all know that dogs love to run and play. If you have a busy life and you cannot take out enough time to take your dog out for an exercise, then chances are that your dog may become destructive. Having an outdoor kennel is a great way to give your dog access to sunshine and fresh air. Moreover, the best part of having an outdoor kennel is that you will not have to constantly supervise your dog. Large breeds always enjoy being outdoors and get more exercises than they normally would on a daily walk.

How a dog kennel with run could help?

Having an outdoor dog kennel is the best way for busy owners to give their dogs exercise when they do not have enough time to do the actual exercising themselves. Kennels provide a way for your beloved pawed companion to run around freely without having the threat of him escaping the yard. If an owner is planning on leaving his/her dog outside for any amount of time he/she needs to buy a well-constructed outdoor kennel to keep your dog safe and happy. Bingo Dog Kennel is the best; it is secure and makes sure that your dog is safe from cars and other dangers.

The environment that it provides is very safe and comfortable. This is a must have for every dog owner that does not have a fence in the backyard. This will also help keep your dog loose and avoid the inhumane chaining option. Bingo Dog Kennel is professionally designed dog kennel and constructed from 100% commercial grade galvanized steel. The steel frames have been designed as quick connect frames which makes it very easy to assemble it. Once erected it remains very sturdy. Sturdiness and durability are the core strengths of the Bingo Dog Kennel since the material used in the design is made with stainless steel.
